Istanbul Center was pleased to host its 9th annual Friendship Dinner on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Westin Buckhead Hotel under the theme of “1 Billion Hungry in the World: What is your Role?” The gala, attended by hundreds of Atlanta’s most influential figures and leaders, began with a pre-event reception at 6:00 pm.

It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform you of another aftershock, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake, on November 9th that has killed over 40 people and further increased the death toll left in the wake of the massive 7.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Sunday, October 23rd 2011 in Turkey.

A Decade Since 9/11: Remembrance and Honor

Ten years ago this Sunday the United States and the world were changed forever when terrorists crashed four planes into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania on a crisp, clear September morning, killing thousands of Americans. The tragedy of September 11, 2001 not only exemplifies the most severe attacks ever perpetrated on American soil but loss on a grand scale: loss of life, loss of security, loss of hope, and even a feeling of loss in common humanity.

On May 1st 2011, President Barack Obama announced that Osama bin Laden, the world’s most notorious terrorist and the leader of al-Qaeda, had been killed by U.S. special forces. As President Obama stated, the death of bin Laden should be heralded as a victory not only for the United States, but “should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.”
